Getting around

Perchtoldsdorf borders both Vienna city and the smaller medieval Mödling cituy, so not only is there great public transport and taxi services here, you can just walk across the borders and hop on the trams or trains! It's the best way to get around. Here is some of the most useful information about travelling in the area (and we highly recommend the Google Maps app!).

Public Transport

Trams and trains; Straßenbahn, U-Bahn and S-Bahn

The Rodaun stop is just metres over the border from Perchtoldsdorf to Vienna, and can be easily reached either on foot (about a 25 minute walk from the village centre), or via taxi (at a cost of about €10). From there, the Linie 60 goes every 7 minutes into the Westbahnhof terminal, which will allow access to the entire city via both Straßenbahn and the train network.

The Straßenbahn is the most convenient and interesting way of exploring Vienna, as not only is the tram service historic (and some old trams are still in service!) but it provides a great opportunity to people watch and see the city as you go past. Just hop on, buy a ticket from the on-board machine, and enjoy the ride! The ticket will cover your entire trip in one direction, even if it takes multiple trams or other forms of public transport. Alternatively, you can purchase a daily or weekly pass.

The rail network, while not offering as pleasant a view, is the fastest way to get around. There are 6 underground trains (helpfully labelled U1-U6), and over 100 standard train routes, Labelled S1- S

Buses and regional trains; Buslinie and ÖBB

Liesing Bahnhof is the closest bus terminal, and is the regional transport hub for buses in the south of Vienna. Buses, and many regional trains are served here. The 256, 257, and 259 buses all will take you from Liesing to Perchtoldsdorf Salitergasse or Marktplatz and back, and go roughly every 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can also walk which takes about 40 minutes from the centre of the village.

In Perchtoldsdorf you can purchase bus tickets from the driver, however please note this is not possible in Vienna. The easiest thing to do is to purchase a weekly or daily pass to explore, which will grant you access to the entire public transport network in the city and is cheaper.

The bus 259 outward from Vienna will also bring you to Mödling.

Uber Austria

Taxi drivers might not always speak great English, but they will try! Showing them an address is always a helpful way to explain where you want to go. You can either call, or hop in a taxi at the taxi rank outside the Gemeindeamt in the town square in Perchtoldsdorf.

We also have Uber here, so you can always arrange a taxi on your phone via the app and avoid the language issue entirely.
